Terminology

 

The document uses terms specific to the ding.Ting project. Here we define what we mean by each of them

  • TING: The overarching project dealing with open source library systems
  • ding.TING: The formal name of the subproject which deals with providing a Drupal frontend for the Ting system. During this document the shorter Ding will be used
  • Ding: Short for ding.Ting
  • Library: The organization which uses a Ding site. The organization will usually consist or one or more physical libraries.
  • Open*: The range of webservices used within the TING project developed by DBC: OpenSearch, OpenScan, OpenSpell and OpenADHL.
  • Object: An item which is managed by the library and retrievable by the OpenSearch service. This could be a book, CD, DVD, electronic resource etc.
  • Collection: A group of objects defined as a collection by OpenSearch e.g. all editions of a book.
  • Ding Provider: A library system which is responsible for handling registered readers, holdings and physical libraries and the relationships between the three such as reservations, debts and locations of holdings.
  • Alma: The internal name for the webservice layer for the library system DDELibra developed by Axiell. The layer is also referred to as DDELibra Webservices.
  • OpenRuth: The webservice layer for the library system Integra developed by DBC.
